The best bed purchase for anyone, not just those who are bed-bound!
When I came across this mattress pad, I could not believe how affordable it was! So much cheaper than the full mattresses or beds similar, yet still had a pump with it, and covered the entire bed. My dad has been very ill the past few months, and pretty much confined to the bed for a good portion of those months, especially in the beginning. 3 weeks in, and he started to develop bed sores on his bottom. He was in and out of the hospital twice, and in a rehab center for 8 days in-between those hospital visits, and those bed sores, only got worse. So, I went searching for something to help with them so they would not get worse. This has been a huge help! They have not gotten any worse, no new ones have formed, and the other ones have started to heal nicely with the help of this mattress, Medihoney, and Terrasil. As someone who has chemical sensitivities, I was concerned I would need to air this out before bringing it in the house, but the smell was not very noticeable at all, until I put my nose right down to it. Even then, not terrible. Being vinyl, I just knew it would be awful smelling, but it wasn’t. I was able to put it on his bed, and be in the small enclosed room he has with no issues at all. I thought once I closed his bedroom door, that it would then permeate the tiny room, but again to my surprise, it was not noticeable, even in the slightest way. I had left it, closed the door, and did not return for an hour, and I could not smell it. Such a pleasant surprise. The pump is so extremely quiet, we cannot hear it. Dad can never hear it at all, but I can sometimes hear a bit of a hiss when it is adjusting, BUT there has to be complete silence for me to hear it, and I have excellent hearing. If there is any movement going on in the room, or the next one, I cannot hear it. If the radio is on, forget it, no way can I hear it. It really is impressive how quiet it is. I have it hanging on the side of his platform bed at the end, and it hangs perfectly right there, and it’s out of the way.It took about 10 minutes on the highest level for it to inflate. It does it very quietly and slowly. So much so, you might not think it’s doing anything at all for a minute. Then you see some of the little pillowing form, and you know it’s working like it should. Once it was inflated, I laid directly on top of it for a few minutes to see what it felt like. In just those few minutes, I decided I must have one for myself! It was very soothing, and comforting to lay on. I was kind of surprised to feel that way so quickly, but I really want one! I will have to wait though, as it is not a necessity for me, just a want. I sleep in my recliner anyway, but this could be used there as well since it is so adjustable. We have it set to the highest setting, and my dad didn’t even notice it at all the first week or so. He said it was comfortable, but couldn’t tell it was there. It was just like his mattress. He is just not very observant, and has dementia too, so I chalked it up to that. I asked him last night if he noticed it, now that it’s been 2 full weeks, and he said he does, but that it’s so subtle. I asked if he didn’t have it anymore, would he miss it, and he said a resounding YES. I asked him if it was comforting the way it adjusts, and he also said yes. It’s strangely comforting! Like I said, I want one!Mine did not come with any straps, but maybe it is meaning flaps that are at each end of the mattress to slide under the mattress to hold it in place. We have not really tucked them under, and it has stayed in place with no issues at all. I have it directly on the mattress, then have the fitted sheet on top of it, and also a bed pad on top of the sheet, which is probably why it took him so long to notice it doing anything.I do turn the mattress off when he gets up in the morning. I wasn’t sure if it would need pumped up again every night, but it doesn’t. It holds the air perfectly. Before he gets in bed, I turn it on again. It probably doesn’t matter when I turn it back on though, because it is still fully inflated, which was a nice surprise. I thought I might need to turn it on 10 minutes before he would go to bed each night, but I am happy to say, that is not the case.Whether you need this for someone who is bed-bound, or want it just to have, it’s one of the best, most inexpensive bed items for anyone. You’ll wish you’d had it years ago.*This mattress pad was purchased at full price, not discounted or free.

    Highly Recommend
My aunt broke her hip and when she came home from the hospital she had developed a very bad bed sore that eventually started tunneling. Her home nurse said that people usually don’t recover once the sore starts to tunnel. In desperation I purchased this air mattress and I am so glad I did. I give it 99% of the credit for her overcoming what could have been a tragic situation. We had a bit of trouble with it at first because we had no idea what setting we should put it on, whether she needed a soft or more firm setting. Once the wound doctor gave us some simple instructions everything was fine. Her healing began slowly but progressed at a steady pace until she was completely healed. The only complaint I have is that maybe they should include some sort of generic instructions on the pressure settings. I was running it on medium but the doctor told me to put it on the softest setting. My aunt is very tiny and I’m not sure if that setting would apply to everyone so ask your doctor. As far as the legistics, the price it very affordable and it works as well as I imagine more expensive versions do. The mattress has divided rows of air pockets that expand in an alternating pattern. Every other row will inflate then deflate at the same time the Alternating rows inflate so that it’s always inflated but no particular area has constant pressure. The mattress is made of a sturdy inflatable material that has a cloth-like feel which helps to inhibit excessive sweating. On the down side, like anything inflatable it’s not immune to a cat’s claws. I am about to purchase a replacement mattress because my cat has put several picks in it. So, if you have a cat just beware. I wish the mattress was a little wider and it tends to slip if you have an adjustable bed but other than that I think it’s wonderful. It helped heal my aunt for which I am grateful. I highly recommend it.

    Excellent mattress that’s absolutely quiet
I had to buy a special mattress to help prevent bed sores since breaking my hip 3 months ago. This was an excellent selection. It fills up nicely and quickly with adjustable softness or hardness. I don’t like hard mattresses. The webpage described it as very quiet which I found hard to believe and expected to hear it running. So I’m very surprised and pleased that it’s perfectly quiet when running. You wouldn’t even know it’s turned on. I’m having to sleep on our comfy couch because our bed is too high, and mattress fits very well. My husband and I are very pleased with this purchase. And so far, no problem with bed sores. If you’re looking for a comfortable mattress that’s adjustable and silent, this is the one to buy!

I did return the product but please know….
This product was very well made. The only slight noise heard was while laying on side through my pillow which might have been vibration. The reason I had to return the product is because after a few days my back went into full spasms due to fibromyalgia. My fibromyalgia is triggered by vibration. It did make me feel more comfortable for a few days, including much better sleep. I was so disappointed when a fibro flair started. However, the return was very easy and stress free which I sincerely appreciated. So excellent product that was made to last. However if you have fibromyalgia and vibration triggers a flair, this product might not be the best. I’m sticking with mattress cushions. Cheers.

Wonderful addition for my 98-yo mom’s care to prevent pressure sores!
We are thrilled with this air mattress to relieve pressure on my 98-yo mom’s back! The redness of her skin was clearly improved within a couple days. We find the noise level of the pump to be tiny and it doesn’t bother her at all. We’ve set the pump at the highest “5” level 24/7 and she doesn’t notice it. The rise and fall of the alternating cells may be mitigated by the washable underpad and the disposable underpads that are between her skin and the sheet covering the air mattress. We also found it relatively easy to place the inflated air mattress under her as recommended by Vive’s customer service representative who was easy to reach. Kudos all around!

I bought this for my husband when he came out of hospital having broken his pelvis in multiple places – it was easy to assemble although the pipes are quite stiff to get on , but they stay on – it’s a very large single size, nice and long and tucks in at foot if the bed – I didn’t want to get a hospital bed as he’s tall – it’s been going 24 hours a day for several weeks – the little engine is very quiet and sits under the bed – the switch has a noticeable green light so you can see if it’s on or off from a distance – I really recommend this – forget the more expensive ones ! I don’t know about long term but it’s certainly ideal for post surgery – thank you

The mattress arrived very quickly, but I could not use it as it was wired for American 120 volt instead of 240 volt Australian- my fault for not checking first. Returning it was managed fairly.
