Supportive and perfect for acid reflux
I bought this because I occasionally suffer from periods of acid reflux and my old wedge pillow was too small and hard and uncomfortable. The photos shows my new one on the left, and my smaller old one on the right so you can see the difference. My old one was too short so it was not under my lower back at all so there was no support. I was constantly pulling it down lower but then my head would hang off the top. This new pillow is long enough that it is under my hips. I am 5’4″ and its perfect. The memory foam is soft and comfortable and supportive. Not hard as a rock. And the wavy contour is perfect for shoulders and neck. The cover is soft and comfy and the underside feels like suede so it does not slip around on your sheet. I love this wedge so much. Highly recommend. I can even sleep on my side. I added a tiny infant pillow to it a few days later from amazon and it made it even more comfy if thats even possible!

Avana Contoured bed wedge – great for both side and back sleepers
I must keep my head elevated when I sleep due to PH/hypoxia issues. As a side-sleeper, I find the usual hard, short wedges with a fast slope cause an unnatural and uncomfortable position. But I also sometimes sleep on my back, so I wanted something that could be comfortable in either position. This wedge has enough length that it doesn’t stick in your side or back as you sleep; rather, it cradles your body to the hips. The memory foam on top softens it enough that you could easily sleep without a pillow. However, I have found that I can still use my favorite pillow, and the contour keeps it from sliding down the wedge, which seems to be a common complaint with other wedges. As far as the height, I have found that an 8″ rise is plenty, especially if you add pillow(s).Yes, it does arrive packaged rolled and compressed. After I took it out of the packaging, it slowly started taking it’s correct shape. I kneaded it a little to help it along. Within a few hours, it was comfortable to sleep on; and after a few uses, it showed no signs of rolling. As someone with lung issues, I did not notice any bothersome scent.Yes, it is a little pricier than others, but it also has much higher quality. Good sleep is important for your health, so I believe it is worth the extra price. I am extremely satisfied with this product.

Not a good fit for a short torso
The quality of the product is very nice, but unfortunately, this was not a good fit for me. I am 5’4″ but very short-waisted (small torso). The wedge extended well below my hip, to the tops of my legs. On my side, it was a very uncomfortable angle that forced my hip into my rib cage. The wedge itself was comfortable for my arm, while lying on my side, but the angle was just not right for me. Could not lie on it for more than 10 minutes without back pain & hip discomfort.

The best wedge pillow. Helps with stomach acid.
The pillow arrived in less than a week which was much quicker than expected and a welcome surprise. When I opened the box, there was a nylon zippered round/rectangular shaped bag. Inside the zippered bag was the pillow (inside a clear plastic bag) in a very compressed state. The instructions are to simply take the pillow out of the clear bag and allow time for the pillow to expand. At first glance the pillow looks like it might be messed up because of the compression but it opened up perfectly. There are instructions on how to launder the cover which you should do before sleeping on the pillow. Personally, I think it helps to take the cover off shortly after the pillow starts expanding for several reasons. 1) to let the foam pillow fully expand without the cover on, 2) to launder the cover and 3) to allow at least 24 hours for the foam to air out.It is always important to let foam pillows air out for at least 24 hours because there is always a scent with them. Even after I put the cover back on a day later there was still a scent but I have a very sensitive nose. It did not bother me enough to discontinue use and after about a week, the scent is almost completely gone. If you are super sensitive to smell than any pillows with memory foam are probably not best for you. There is a one inch layer of memory foam on top of the whole pillow which really makes this pillow super comfortable compared to pillows that don’t have the memory foam layer.The cover is nicely constructed, looks beautiful and is very soft to sleep on. The wave shape on top lends itself very well for sleeping either on your back or side. The top wave keeps your regular pillow in place much better than a straight type of wedge would. (keep in mind that this wedge pillow is only 24 inches wide) I do like to sleep on my side and I will admit sleeping on a wedge pillow is much easier if you sleep on your back but if you give it time, you can get used to sleeping on your side with this pillow. I sleep well on this pillow and it gets better the more I get used to it. I don’t wake up with any back problems due to the pillow which is also good. The design really does help with side sleeping.The reason I bought this pillow was to help with stomach acid at night which it does. For full disclosure, I also recently started taking a natural herbal supplement at night (slippery elm by Now) which further helps with stomach acid. You can always do some research on slippery elm and you can find it on Amazon. Overall, I think for me it still helps to sleep elevated. I’ve only had the pillow for about two weeks but everyday I get more and more used to it. If you are a side sleeper it is just a matter of finding a comfortable position, This wave type of pillow is so much better to sleep on than the typical straight topped wedge. The longer length of the pillow is much better that the shorter length pillows. Some wedge pillows are only 24 inches long which cut off at your waist and that can compress on your stomach and make acid worse. This pillow measures 35 inches in length on top which allows more of your mid section to be on the gradual incline of the pillow. It really seems well made and although it is a bit pricey compared to some other wedge pillow, it has the helpful wave design and I feel good about buying something American made which supports American jobs.The only reason I gave the pillow 4 stars instead of 5 is I personally think for side sleeping that the pillow would be much improved if it was just a few inches wider. The other thing that would further make this pillow perfect is if the one inch layer of memory foam had some kind cooling gel in it because memory foam on its own can sometimes feel hot to sleep on but I am sure it is different for each person. I included some images of the pillow on a full size bed.

I use wedge pillows because they help with my snoring – but I find most wedge pillows are only comfortable for sleeping on my back and I prefer sleeping on my side. This pillow was on my radar for over a year, however it was also more money than I had ever spent on a pillow in my life! Finally I ordered it – and I am thrilled!! It is so comfortable, whether I sleep on my side or on my back. Like, SO comfortable. It helps with my snoring too. I still snore, but less than without a wedge pillow and about the same as with my previous wedge pillow.There had been some error with the shipping, but when I reached out to inquire what happened, they were very friendly and got it sorted out and it still arrived by the date by which it was initially supposed to be here.Also – I had pre-ordered one of these a year or so before the one I ended up getting. For whatever reason even when they were back in stock, the pre-order never got filled and I ended up cancelling it. At the time I just decided not to message the company about it because I had decided I wanted to use the money for something else anyway. I just bring it up here because in combination with the shipping error I wonder if maybe they sometimes need following up with? But Iâm so pleased with the product that for me at least it was worth it.[Edit/update Feb 18 2022: I just received a second pillow using the original tracking number it had been sent with – Iâm actually wondering now if the shipping error was on the UPS side of things and not Avana? In any case, they are letting me keep the pillow at no charge which I think is incredibly generous of them. My concerns above about their customer service have been significantly alleviated!]I see that some people are asking about height/build when figuring out if this pillow will work for them. Iâm a 5â9â female, 240lbs.

Does not look like new, so I took off the cover to wash and discovered it was damaged. Returning would be costly and troublesome for me, disappointed.

I love how you can remove the outer shell to wash it it’s a very good quality one and when I have bed indigestion or acid reflux is acting up at night I sleep so well with this pillow that helps a lot. The only thing I wish I could do is find another one like this but not as high Sunday is when my stomach is not bothering I could still sleep with it and be comfortable. In other words whenever my stomach’s really acting up I sleep with this and it does exactly what I needed to do, keeps the acid down!!

I am very pleased with this pillow. I have been suffering from Gerd – where I was waking up choking and unable to breath some mornings – a really scary feeling, also frequent acid reflux etc. I didn’t like the potential side effects of the commonly used medications prescribed for Gerd so started looking into alternate things that may help. I read that these wedge pillows can help with this condition. Since using this I have not had any bothersome effects of Gerd or acid reflux while sleeping at all. I also find that it is very comfortable and have been able to get a good nights sleep using this. I am a side sleeper and this works perfect for me.
