    Sturdy and good looking
Grab handles are very sturdy when installed and good looking. I used the anchors and also hit a stud so they are not going anywhere. They also look very good in stainless.

  3. Al Wilson

    Very Sturdy Quality Product
The bar itself is wonderful if installed securely. That being said, I found the “anchors” that came with it were useless. That may be because you need different types for different surfaces.I’ve installed these on a tile wall and a wall with fiberglass sheeting. I went to the hardware store and got the appropriate anchors so that the bars could be installed securely. Now I love it.I would’ve given it a 5 star overall rating except for the lame anchors that came with it.

Not satsfied with the provided anchors
I got these to install 1 each in the women’s and men’s sides of the showers in bath house of the ‘Field Station’ of the club I belong to. The main activity of the club is for fit people, but everyone does get older and some of the members are old timers and need these sort of aids. Part of the reason I selected this model was for the knurled finish on bars. On bars I looked at on the big box store the knurled finish was only available on the high price models. The bath house and its shower stalls are constructed of cinder block. The ‘Field Station’ is about 2 hours round trip to the nearest full service hardware store so when 4 of the 12 anchors broke while I was screwing them in I was forced to complete the installation with the provided anchors. Basically I screwed into the part of the failed anchors that was left in the wall. Plastic anchors are appropriate for a solid wall and I have installed a grab bar in a mud backed ceramic tile wall with more solid plastic anchors with no similar issues. Next time I go, I will take better quality anchors and re-install the bars. The host of the Home Improvement show Saturday mornings on local radio says he enlists the help of a burly friend to test grab bars he installs. If the friend can’t pull the grab bar loose it passes. I suspect at least some of bars I installed this weekend would not pass that test although they should be ok in the short term for normal use.I agree with the criticism in several other reviews that a suggested drill size when using the provided anchors should have been included in the instructions. I found that 1/4″ worked. 3/16″ was too small. In the design of other grab bars the plate the screws go through was welded to the bar. On the 1st bar I found I had not tightened the bolt that holds the plate to bar sufficiently and the bar could wiggle some because of it. At that point, did not want to uninstall / reinstall the bar for fear of further damaging the anchors. In the next one I tightened the bolt further and it felt like I might be getting to the point where I was close to stripping the threads the bolt goes into. Definitely a welded plate and bar would be stronger and more fool proof.
